Abstract

1,041,608. Anti-dazzle devices. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 27, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 37959/63. Heading F4R. [Also in Division E1] A sheet of rigid transparent or translucent material suitable for use as an anti-dazzle screen in a light fitting has on one surface, a first set of grooves that are closely spaced and straight and parallel and a second set of grooves that 'are also closely spaced and straight and parallel and which intersect the first set at right-angles, the grooves penetrating into the thickness of the sheet and being treated or filled in such a manner that the surfaces of each groove are not light transmissible. The sheet material is preferably a synthetic thermoplastic such as polymethyl methacrylate, and the grooves are coated or filled with an opaque filler such as chalk dispersed in a suitable binding medium. One surface of the sheet may be embossed, e.g. with prisms, or otherwise modified to further control the light. The grooves may be cut and subsequently treated, or the sheet material may be moulded around a grid-like structure.
