A gramophone pick-up comprises a planar piezoelectric element 10, Fig. 6, and a carrier member 11 in which element 10 is carried, the member 11 having a first portion 11b adjacent one part of the element 10, for engagement with a restraining easing, Figs. 2, 5, and having a further portion 11a of less thickmess than portion 11b and arranged adjacent a further part of element 10, said further portion 11a being substantially free of restraint by the casing, and a stylus or styli 13, 14 carried by member 11 in the region of the further portion 11a. Piezoelectric element 10 is a " twister " and member 11 is of plasticized P.V.C. The division between portions 11a, 11b is provided along a diagonal 11c of the element 10. Styli 13, 14 are mounted on a metal clip 15 held to a corner of member 11 by tongues 16, 17. The restraining casing comprises two tray-like portions 8, 9, Fig. 5, joined by an integral hinge 21 having weakened portions 22, 23. L-shaped contacts 29, 30 are provided. In assembly, member 11 is placed in the casing which is then closed by interengaging clips 31, 32. Leads 19, 20 from the " twister " engage the contacts 29, 30. The cartridge thus formed is mounted in a cradle 40, Figs. 1, 4, being hinged at projections 45, 46, Fig. 3. Projections 49, 50 on the cradle engage one or other of depressions 51, 52 in the easing to permit the cartridge to be located in one of two positions according to which stylus 13 or 14 is in playing position. To facilitate rocking movement between the two positions, an actuating mechanism, not shown, may be mounted on the cradle 40, or an arm accessible to the user may be formed on the casing.
