Abstract
1349642 Sets PLESSEY CO Ltd 4 Sept 1972 [11 Dec 1971] 57642/71 Heading H4J A telephone instrument (Fig. 1) has a cradle detector 5 in the form of a pivoted arm and a compression spring 10 effective when the instrument cover 2 is in position on the base 1 to bias the detector 5 to the off-hook position and to force the cradle switch 11 to the off-hook state, the switch 11 assuming its on-hook state, firstly when spring 10 is overpowered by the presence of the handset 4 in the cradle 3, and secondly when spring 10 is rendered ineffective by removal of the cover 2 from the base 1. Spring 10 is fixed either to the cover 2 or to the detector 5. Switch 11 has an operating plunger 13 held in contact with detector 5 by a compression spring 14. Springs 10, 14 operate in opposite senses on detector 5 but spring 10 is stronger than spring 14. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), pillar 9 carries a rocker (15) at a pivot (16). A first arm (17) bears against the plunger 13 of the cradle switch 11 and a second arm 18 bears against a stub (19) carried on the detector.
