Abstract
984,552. Telephone sets. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Jan. 28, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1963], No. 3847/63. Addition to 984,551. Heading H4J. A telephone instrument stand 10 (Figs. 1, 4) has a bridge-shaped movable rest 16 on two columns movable through slots 17 in the stand 10 to operate contacts within the stand when a handset 20 is removed from the rest. The columns 15 may be connected to a horizontal pivot at some distance within stand 10 so as to move substantially vertically and may be of arcuate shape, centred on the pivot. Alternatively, the columns 15 may be mounted on slides within the stand or may project through slots in the sides of the stand 10. The handset of Fig. 1 is located on the stand 10 mainly by inner side walls 18 of the cross-piece 16 and partly by contact between inclined surface 12 and the flat underside 27 of mouthpiece 23. The handset of Fig. 4 is located mainly by the earpiece 21 engaging a recess 42 and partly by contact between inclined surface 12 and mouth piece 23. The rest 16 preferably holds the face of earpiece 23 just out of contact with stand 10. Push-buttons may replace dial 13. The stand 10 may be shaped to hold the handset 20 with its handle at up to 45 degrees from the horizontal.
