Abstract
The invention comprises sulphonyl semicarbazides of the formula: <FORM:0953779/C2/1> and physiologically tolerable salts thereof, wherein X is a halogen item or C1-6 alkyl group (e.g. Cl, Br or CH3) in the ortho-or meta-position, and Z-Z, represents an alkylene chain of 6 or 7 carbon atoms optionally bearing lower alkyl substituents, and processes for their preparation by (a) reacting a benzenesulphonyl isocyanate or a compound which during the reaction forms or behaves as an isocyanate, e.g. a benzenesulphonyl carbamic ester, thiocarbamic ester or carbamic halide or a benzenesulphonyl urea, N1-acyl urea or bis benzenesulphonyl urea, with an N, N-alkyleneimino-hydrazine, (b) reacting an N, N-alkyleneimino-isocyanate, N, N-alkylene-hydrazino-N1-carbonic ester or thiocarbonic ester or N, N-alkylenehydrazino-N1-carbonic halide with a benzenesulphonamide, (c) hydrolysing a corresponding 1-benzenesulphonyl-3-alkyleneimino-parabanic acid, or (d) desulphurizing a benzenesulphonyl-thiosemicarbazide e.g., with a heavy metal oxide or with an oxidising agent such as a peroxide. Pharmaceutical preparations for oral treatment of diabetes comprise the above sulphenyl semicarbazides and their salts with organic or inorganic bases or acids such as hydrohalic sulphuric or sulphamic, in admixture or conjunction with a carrier, suitably in the form of tablets.
