Abstract

The invention comprises thiocarbamic esters of the formula <FORM:0882111/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 represents a 2,3-dichloroalkyl group and R2 and R3 are each C1-4 alkyl groups. The compounds are prepared by heating a compound R1X (where X represents halogen) with an alkyl thionocarbamate of the formula <FORM:0882111/IV (b)/2> or with an aqueous solution of a thiocarbamate of the formula <FORM:0882111/IV (b)/3> where M represents an alkali metal. The latter starting materials are suitably prepared by reacting carbon oxysulphide with a solution of an amine R2R3NH in an alkali metal hydroxide.ALSO:A phytotoxicidal composition having additionally some defoliant and nematocidal activity comprises a thiocarbamic ester of the formula <FORM:0882111/VI/1> wherein R1 represents a 2, 3-dichloroallyl group and R2 and R3 are each C1-4 alkyl groups, together with an inert liquid or finely divided solid diluent and, if desired, a dispersing agent.
