Abstract
The invention comprises thiophosphonic esters of formula <FORM:0898277/IV (b)/1> where R is C1-6 alkyl, R1 is C1-4 alkyl and X is oxygen or sulphur. They may be prepared by reacting an alkyl alkylphosphonite or an o-alkyl alkylphosphonothioite with nitrobenzenesulphenic acid chloride or by reacting an alkali metal salt of a nitrothiophenol with an alkyl alkylphosphonochloridate or an \sHO-alkyl alkylphosphonochloridothioate. The products are insecticides (see Group VI). m-Nitrophenylsulphenic acid chloride used as a starting material is obtained by passing chlorine into a methylene chloride solution of bis-(m-nitrophenyl) disulphide.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprise a thiophosphonic ester of formula <FORM:0898277/VI/1> where R is C1-6 alkyl, R1 is C1-4 alkyl and X is oxygen or sulphur together with a conventional liquid or solid carrier. Known insecticides and/or fertilisers may be present.
