Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0979007/C1/1> and physiologically acceptable salts thereof with bases or acids, wherein X and Y are halogen atoms or C1- 6 alkyl or alkoxy groups and -Z-Z1- is an alkylene chain having 3-7 carbon atoms, optionally bearing C1- 4 alkyl substituents, and their preparation by (a) reacting a benzenesulphonyl isocyanate with an N,N-alkylenehydrazine or, conversely, reacting a benzenesulphonamide with an alkyleneiminoisocyanate, (b) reacting an N,N-alkylene hydrazine with a compound which reacts as a benzenesulphonylisocyanate, such as a benzenesulphonyl carbamic ester, monothiocarbamic ester or carbamic halide, or conversely, reacting the corresponding alkyleneimino carbamic derivatives with a benzenesulphonamide, (c) reacting a benzenesulphonyl urea which may be N1-substituted by alkyl, aryl or acyl radicals, or a bis-(benzenesulphonyl)-urea, with an N,N-alkylenehydrazine, or conversely, reacting an N1,N1-alkylene-semicarbazide, optionally substituted on the N4-atom, with a benzenesulphonamide, (d) hydrolyzing the corresponding 1-benzenesulphonyl-3-alkyleneimine-parabanic acid or (e) desulphurizing the corresponding benzenesulphonyl-thiosemicarbazide compound e.g. by reaction with oxides, heavy metal salts or oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide, sodium peroxide or nitrous acid. Pharmaceutical preparations for the oral treatment of diabetes mellitus comprise the above compounds of the invention in admixture or conjunction with a carrier, preferably in the form of tablets.
