953,629. Mixing carbonated liquids ; agitating by ultrasonic vibrations. ELECTRONIC ASSISTANCE CORPORATION. June 22, 1962 [July 20, 1691], No. 24140/62. Heading B1C. In a process and apparatus for filling and sealing bottles of carbonated liquid, the bottles 12 are passed to a filling star-wheel 10 on which they are filled, leaving a small air-space at the top. They then pass to a star-wheel 18 where contact is made with the neck of the bottle (see also Fig. 2, not shown) by the shoe 30 of an exciter unit such as the ultrasonic transducer 28. A foam is thus generated which approaches but does not reach the upper end of the bottle. The bottles are then transferred to a capping star-wheel 20 where they pass under a hood 82 having a slot, or a succession of perforations 80, through which is projected a jet of gas (conveniently carbon dioxide), thus displacing any air remaining in the necks of the bottles which are immediately capped.
