Abstract

952,388. Displaying articles. TROUGHTON & YOUNG (LIGHTING) Ltd. Oct. 5, 1962 [Oct. 6, 1961], No. 36011/61. Heading A4T. [Also in Division F4] An elongated lamp is arranged along one edge of a horizontal sheet of transparent material so that light is projected through the sheet towards the opposite edge, the lower surface of the sheet adjacent this edge having a saw-toothed bevel to form a series of reflecting surfaces for directing light upwards through the upper face. A device for the display of articles, e.g. cut-glass objects, consists of a casing enclosing a fluorescent tube 14 together with starter and control gear 16, a sheet 20 of transparent plastic passing through a slot in the casing with its edge adjacent the tube 14 and having a saw tooth bevel 25 at the opposite end to reflect light upwards on to an object (not shown) arranged on a transparent shelf 12 above the sheet 20. A sheet metal tray 30 having a cover plate encloses the sheet 20 so that light is emitted only in the neighbourhood of the bevel 25. Alternatively, the sheet 20 may be covered with black felt except for an opening beneath the object to be displayed. The bevel consists of alternate facets at 9 degrees to the horizontal and alternate facets, each successive pair of which is at an angle to the horizontal which varies by uniform steps from 45 degrees at the end nearest the tube to 36 degrees at the opposite end.
