[Also in Division B2] In an arrangement for coating the picture area of a cathode-ray tube with luminescent material by distributing it as a cone of jets into a settling liquid 3, an auxiliary liquid, e.g. water, is supplied before and after the material flow, that is, while the cone is being formed and during its collapse. In use, measuring bottles 19 are first filled by suction with luminescent material and potassium silicate respectively. Water from inlet 13 is then admitted to the distributer 7 by valve 11; when the cone is fully established valves 17 are opened to admit the coating materials and the water shut off. When the bottles 19 are empty a valve 37 opens to flush them with water which maintains the cone until all the materials have left the distributer. The valves are time-switch controlled, and it is stated that, instead of water, the first flow may be a solution of bariumnitrate, which also constitutes the settling liquid 3.
