Abstract

952,214. Drilling; honing. M.A.M.SPARK. April 2, 1962 [April 4, 1961; Dec. 27, 1961], Nos. 11891/61 and 46215/61. Headings B3C and B3D. A boring, honing, tapping, or burnishing tool comprises a tubular housing 22, having guides 23, and a working tool 24, Figs. 2, 3, slidable in slots 29, 40, and a device 26, Fig. 6, for radially adjusting the tool and guides. Device 26 comprises a scroll 32 integral with a bar 21, a second scroll 27 keyed to the bar, and a nut 29, to clamp the scrolls against teeth on the members 23, 24. Rotation of scroll 25 is made possible through a window 41, and as the opposite hand scrolls are rotated together, the members 23, 24 move radially, and are then clamped by tightening nut 29. The tool is driven by drive means connected to bayonet slots 43. Scroll 25 may be graduated, and may be driven by a worm. In a modification, Figs. 10, 11, 13, only one scroll 50 is provided, and is held against members 48, 49, by a screw 61 screwed into the bore of the housing 47. Members 48, 49 are held in slots 59, 60 by keys which engage keyways 56 in the cutters, and similar keyways in the housing.
