Abstract

Undercollars for lining the collars of garments are made by cutting a single layer of material consisting of a felted or non-felted fibrous fleece of which the fibres have been orientated generally in one direction and which has been rendered resilient and antishrinking by treatment with a synthetic resin, so that the length of the undercollar extends transversely of the general direction of orientation of the fibres. The fibrous fleece may consist of wool fibres alone or a mixture containing 90-20% by weight of wool fibres with 10-80% by weight of regenerated cellulose fibres. The synthetic resin may be a thermo plastic resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer thereof, and/or a thermo setting resin, e.g. a condensation product of urea, melamine or phenol with, formaldehyde. The preferred treating composition comprises 75-50 parts by weight of a thermo plastic synthetic resin 15-40 parts by weight of a thermo setting synthetic resin and 10 parts by weight of starch. The resin may be applied to the fleece in the form of a solution or emulsion by impregnation or dusted on in the form of a fine powder and then heated.ALSO:Undercollars for lining the collars of garments are made by cutting a single layer of material consisting of a felted or non-felted fibrous fleece of which the fibres have been orientated generally in one direction and which has been rendered resilient and anti-shrinking by treatment with a synthetic resin, so that the length of the under-collar extends transversely of the general direction of orientation of the fibres.
