Abstract

952,006. Rotary-table compression moulding machines. JOHN HOLROYD & CO. Ltd. Jan. 22, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1962], No. 6666/62. Heading B5A. A multi-layer tablet making machine comprising a plurality of dies each of which successively receives a plurality of powder fills, which fills are tamped prior to the successive fill entering the die, is characterised in that the tamped layer or layers can be ejected for sampling, compression means being provided whereby the said layer or layers to be sampled are compressed sufficiently to ensure their integrity prior to such ejection. In the machine as described, dies 13, Fig. 4, are located on a rotary table and are fed with powder from three hoppers. Each die 13 is associated with upper and lower tamping plungers 15, 20 the heads 16, 21 of which ride cam tracks which control their entry and withdrawal from the die. Between the first and second and the second and third feeding stations are a pair of upper and lower tamping rollers 26, 27 which co-operate with the plunger heads 16, 21 to effect tamping. Each lower roller is vertically adjustable in a U-shaped member by a screw actuated wedge. Each of the upper roller 26 is carried by a pivoted lever 28 which is normally in the position shown but which can be lowered through a normally operable telemotor link to cause the upper plunger to compress the powder in the die to a greater extent. The telemotor link also causes a sampling cam 46 to move above the lower cam track so that the lower plunger 20 raises the tamped layer or layers to the level of the table so as to be deflected to a sampling shoot. The lower cam track includes weight adjustment cams which operate the -lower plungers to eject a small amount of powder after each fill. Upper and lower rollers at the end of the cam tracks effect a final tamping before the tablet is deflected into a take-off shoot.
