Magazine slide changing apparatus comprises a slider 1 movable into and out of the projection position on guide rod 2 by a handgrip 3 which may also be operated to transport the magazine 6 and to perform another control function such as focusing the objective. Rack 9 on magazine 6 is engaged by toothed wheel 11 mounted on bracket 10 of slider 1 and meshing with indexing wheel 12 rotatable by shaft 13 through handgrip knob 3. When slider 1 is moved to the projection position with slide 7, pinion 15 engages lever 16 and may be rotated by knob 3 to focus lens 19. In a modification, the slide movement and magazine transport are carried out in a single movement of knob 3, the shaft 13 being rockable about its lower bearing to position "b" when a further toothed wheel 22 fixed on the shaft is rotated through one tooth space by pawl 24 which cannot yield. This rotation advances magazine 6 by means of wheels 11, 12. As shaft 13 is returned to position "a", spring- loaded pawl 24 yields. In a further modification, shaft 13 carries a single toothed wheel 28 which drives rack 9 in position "A" and which engages another wheel 29 in position "B" to control focusing, for example. The shaft is also axially displaceable downwards to engage friction wheel 30 with rail 31 to control a further projector function (e.g. control of a diaphragm or luminosity of the projector lamp), the wheel 28 then being disengaged from rack 9 or wheel 29. This disengagement may be avoided by placing wheel 34 on a sleeve carrying knob 3 which is coupled to shaft 13 by an internal gear which disengages when knob 3 is depressed.
