In a mechanism for forward or reverse drive of the slide tray of a projector, push bar A slides in plate 26 and displaces slide holders to the viewing position and back, and a fork 17, pivoting at 18 in slot 18<SP>1</SP> in the plate 26 under the control of electromagnet 23 and rod 24, may be displaced in the direction of movement at bar A, by means of abutments a, b on bar A which engage pivot 18 on the outward and inward strokes respectively of the bar. The arms of fork 17 are formed as pawls which engage ratchet wheel 19 to rotate it in one direction or the other, depending on the inclination of fork 17, as bar A moves in its track. Pinion 20, fast with ratchet wheel 19, thereby drives the slide tray by engagement with rack 21.
