Abstract
Tetrazoamino compounds, of the general formula: <FORM:0951838/C2/1> where R, R1 represent alkyl radicals containing up to 5C atoms, n=1 or 2, are prepared by reacting tetrazotised 4,41-diamino-3,31-dimethyldiphenyl with a mixture of equal molar quantities of an N-substituted amino-ethane sulphonic acid and an N-substituted amino-methane- or -amino-ethane carboxylic acid. The tetrazoamino compounds in the free acid state may be converted to the alkali metal salts, if desired. The reaction is preferably carried out in an aqueous medium at an alkaline pH, and the tetrazoamino compound isolated by addition of NaCl or an alkali metal hydroxide, or by spray-drying the mixture. These tetrazoamino compounds can be split by neutral steam, and are suitable for the production of ice colours in calico printing on textile fabrics containing cellulose (see Division D1). Aminosulphonic and aminocarboxylic acids specified are methyl-, ethyl-, or isopropyl-aminoethane sulphonic acids and methyl-, ethyl-, or isopropyl-amino-methane- or -ethanecarboxylic acids. An example is given of the reaction of tetrazotised o-tolidine with a mixture of methyl taurine and sarcosine. Specification 463,669 is referred to.ALSO:Stabilized tetrazoamino compounds of the general formula:- <FORM:0951838/D1-D2/1> where R, R1 represent alkyl radicals containing up to 5 C atoms. n = 1 or 2, and their alkali metal salts can be readily split by neutral steam in the presence of ice colour coupling components on textile fabrics containing cellulose, to produce ice colours in the fabrics. The mixtures of these tetrazoamino compounds and the ice colour coupling components may be applied to the fabric in the form of printing pastes or solutions; and preponderantly dark to black printings are produced, having good fastness properties. Coupling components specified are those of the 2, 3-hydroxynaphthoric acid arylamide or acetoacetyl-aminoacrylide series (c.f. Colour Index, 2nd ed., Vol III, Nos. 37500 to 37625); or those components given in Specification 463,669. Two examples are given, the first one illustrating the preparation of one tetrazoamino compound. Example 2 illustrates the use of this tetrazoamino compound with a coupling component obtained by the acid coupling of 1-amino-2-nitrobenzene and 1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene to make a printing paste for cotton fibres.
