Abstract

Insoluble azo dyes are produced on the fibre by applying to the fibre a mixture containing an alkali salt of a hydrazine sulphonic acid derived from a 4-amino- or 4 : 4<1>-diaminodiphenylamine or derivatives thereof of the general formula: R1-NH-R2-NH-NH-SO3H wherein R1=a residue of the benzene series, which may contain a further -NH-NH-SO3H group and R2=a residue of the benzene series, and an alkali salt of a combining component capable of forming an o-oxyazo dyestuff and steaming the material. The free combining component and alkali may be substituted for the alkali salt and dyeing or printing assistants may be added, e.g. chromate and sulphur. The coupling components referred to in Specification 379,279 may be used. The following examples are given: (1) A paste containing the sodium salt of 4<1>-methoxydiphenylamine - 4-hydrazine sulphonic acid and 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl aniline is printed on the material and steamed; a clear blue print is obtained. (2) Diphenylamine-4-: 4<1>-dihydrazine sulphonic is used as in (1). (3) Diphenylamine-4-hydrazine sulphonic acid and the m-nitranilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic are used as above; other arylides may be substituted for the m-nitranilide. (4) 3-Methoxydiphenylamine-4-hydrazine sulphonic acid (sodium salt) is ground with the m-nitranilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and caustic soda to form a dyestuff preparation. (5) The sodium salt of diphenylamine-4-hydrazine sulphonic acid, the disodium salt of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl - 1 - naphthylamine and sodium acetate are ground together. (6) A mixture of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl-o-anisidine, sodium salt of diphenylamine - 4 : 4<1> - dihydrazine - sulphonic acid and sodium acetate is made into a printing paste and applied as above. Printing pastes containing the following components are also specified: (7) An arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and the sodium salt of 3-(4<1>-methylbenzenesulphoyl) - diphenylamine - 4 - hydrazine sulphonic acid. (8) The sodium salt of 2<1>-methoxy- or 2<1>-chloro-diphenylamine-4- hydrazine sulphonic acid and an arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid. (9) The sodium salt of 4<1> - methoxydiphenylamine - 4 - hydrazine sulphonic acid, 2 : 3-oxynaphthoylaminobenzene and diacetoacetyl-o-tolidine. (10) The sodium salt of diphenylamine-4-hydrazine sulphonic acid and 2 - hydroxyanthracene - 3 - carboyl-1-amino-2-methylbenzene. (11) The sodium salt of 3 - methyl - 4<1> - methoxydiphenylamine - 4 - hydrazine sulphonic acid and 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl - o - anisidine. (12) Bleached calico fabric is padded with a solution containing 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl-p-chloranilide, the sodium salt of 4<1>-methoxydiphenylamine-4-hydrazine sulphonic acid, caustic soda, thiodiglycol, neutral chromate and miscilage of tragacanth, dried and steamed; other components are also specified. Hydrazine-sulphonic acids above referred to are made by acting with a reducing agent on the corresponding diazo- or tetrazo-sulphonic acids or by reducing the corresponding diazo-or tetrazo - diphenylamines.
