Abstract
951, 806. Table look-up apparatus. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS & TABULATORS Ltd. April 26, 1962 [April 27, 1961],No. 15258/61. Heading G4A. [Also in Division H3] A data storage device comprises a carrier member 1 provided with at least one first conductor 5 and a plurality of second conductors 11, the first conductor or conductors providing a plurality of coupling points with the second conductors, a single coupling member 15 of magnetisable material adjacent the coupling points to couple the conductors at the points, and inhibiting means at at least one coupling point to inhibit coupling between the conductors at that point. Mutually perpendicular input conductors 5 and output conductors 11 are printed on opposite sides of each board 2, a stack of which are separated by spacers 3. Core 15 provides coupling between input and output, corresponding to a binary "1", the absence of a core corresponding to a "0". Furthermore each core 15 has inhibiting cylinders 22 (e.g. of copper) or coils of wire 29, arranged on it to inhibit coupling at predetermined locations, which also correspond to a "0". Each coupling location may be separated from the next on the core by a narrow conductive collar, or adjacent input conductors may magnetise the core in opposite directions. Cores 15 may be hollow tubes and may be secured to a front panel for simultaneous removal of all cores. The two sets of conductors may be printed on separate panels. The assembly may be potted. The Provisional Specification states that an input conductor 5 may embrace some of the cores 15 in two adjacent rows.
