Abstract

A paint brush comprises a handle 8, one end of which has apertured wall portions, a ferrule 19 fitting about the said one end with a close sliding fit and having bristles mounted in the front end thereof, and means interlocking the apertured wall portions, the ferrule and the bristles, the means being wholly or partly an adhesive mass. In one embodiment (Figs. 2 to 4) a bridge piece 15 having legs 16 is fitted to one end of a handle 8 by means of spigots 17 engaging apertures 14. When in position the top plate of the bridge extends close to the ends of lugs 13. The bristles 7 are loaded in a ferrule 19, pressed in a cowl 21, and bonded therein by adhesive. When that adhesive has set a further quantity is added to the surface of the set adhesive and a small quantity applied to the rear edge of the cowl 21. The ferrule 19 and cowl 21 are pushed over a wall 10 of the handle until their rear edges engage in a recess 12. The second layer of adhesive is pressed firmly on to the bridge 15 and is squeezed through holes 18 to effect a locking engagement when set. In a second embodiment (Fig. 7) the bridge piece is dispensed with. The lugs 13 are embedded in the second layer 26 of adhesive which passes through apertures 24 effecting, when set, a locking engagement. The handle, ferrule, and cowl and bridge, if used, may be of nylon or other plastic. Alternatively the bridge piece may be of zinc alloy. The adhesive is preferably waterproof and either an epoxy or polyester resin.
