Abstract

907,044. Brushes; handle fixings. HOLDEN, W. J. June 13, 1961 [June 15, 1960], No. 21006/60. Classes 19 and 61. A brush comprises a bristle unit 11 anchored by an adhesive in a cupped housing 1 wherein adhesive trapping means is provided in the housing to afford an adhesivereceiving space or spaces between itself and the base of the cupped housing, the bristle unit being secured by a body of adhesive inserted into the housing and having a portion or portions thus imprisoned behind the trapping means. The housing is formed as a moulding of polythene or other synthetic plastics material and has in its base 2 an opening receiving the spigot portion 3a of a wooden handle 3. Internally of the housing the base 2 is formed with cavities 4 which leave an internal socket wall 5 encompassing the spigot receiving opening and ribs 6 extending outwardly from the socket wall 5. A metal plate 7 dimensioned to leave a space around its entire boundary between the plate and wall of the housing 1, is secured by a screw 8 to the spigot 3a. The screw secures the handle with its shoulder 9 bearing on the exterior surface of the housing 1. Provision may be made for the body of adhesive to reach to surfaces of the handle spigot 3a to afford greater security for the handle. In a modification, the spigot and housing opening are tapered to provide a frictional fit.
