Abstract

951,616. Cotter-pins. AERPAT A.G. March 28, 1960 [March 27, 1959], No. 10966/60. Heading F2H. A pin 10 comprises balls 17 urged radially outwards in bores 16 by a rod 19 slidable longitudinally in either direction in the pin body 11 from the position shown, to which it is urged by a spring 26, to permit the balls to retract. The spring is compressed between a washer 28 and a pin 32 secured to body 11 when rod 19 is moved upwards, and between a face 30 of the rod and a shoulder supporting washer 28 when the rod is moved downwards. Pin 32 co-operates with a slot 33 in rod 19 to limit movement of the rod. To prevent the balls from leaving the bores 16, both ends of each bore is staked. Alternatively, only the outer ends are staked and the end 22 of rod 19 is shaped to hold the balls when the rod is moved upwards.
