Abstract

951,589. Fire-extinguisher powder spray. PYRENE CO. Ltd. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 40800/59. Heading B2F. A fire-extinguisher powder spray comprises a barrel I carrying a circular cylindrical rubber discharge nozzle 5 which is engaged at diametrically opposite positions by a pair of transverse rods 9 carried by radially outwardly cranked rocker arms 8, the two arms 8 being in turn engaged by a lip 13 of a bell-mouthed sleeve 11, 12 which is slidably guided on the barrel 1 whereby in the position shown in Fig. 2 the nozzle 5 is undeformed and provides a high velocity circular jet, and with the sleeve 11 retracted along the barrel as shown in Fig. 4, the arms 8 are rocked by the lip 13 so that the nozzle 5 is flattened by the rods 9 to provide a low velocity fan-shaped jet. As shown, the arms 8 are pivoted to lugs 7 on a sleeve 6 which embraces the end of the barrel 1 and is externally serrated to mount the nozzle 5. A screw 16 in the barrel 1 engages in a slot 17 in the wall of sleeve 11 to serve as a stop defining the limiting positions of the sleeve, and a handle 15 is provided on the sleeve to be used in conjunction with a pistol grip and feed control trigger valve at the rear end of the barrel (not shown).
