March 8, 1962 [March 8, 1961], No. 8929/62. Headings B6B and B6H. Sheets on edge in a receptacle 1 are separated sequentially by a friction roller 2 and a cooperating roller 23 and urged forward between a fixed plate 4 and an inclined endless belt 3 on the roller 23 which is driven so that the operative run of the belt is moving in a direction opposed to the sheets. The upper part of the belt 3 is so spaced from the plate 4 that only one sheet can pass, and the belt pushes back further sheets which may have been separated by the roller 2. The speed of the belt is such that transverse vibrations are imparted thereto, and steel wires are built in the core of the belt. Each separated sheet is forwarded by a roller and feed belt 5 over a horizontal path to feed rollers 7, 8, and data thereon may be scanned at the positions 12. The receptacle 1 is mounted on a carriage which is urged towards the roller 2 by a weight 6. Each sheet fed by the last set of rollers 7, 8 is diverted downwardly by a finger 9 and arcuate guides to a rotating toothed roller 14 and a delivery belt 13, which stack the sheet on edge in a receptacle 11 which is interchangeable with the receptacle 1, is mounted on rollers, and is urged by a weight 6 towards the belt 13. The toothed roller 14 turns over the top edge of each sheet to free the passage for the next sheet.
