Abstract
950,215. Crankshafts. HUMBER Ltd., and A. STEVENS. July 3, 1962 [July 7, 1961], No. 24747/61. Heading F2U. To reduce centrifugal back-pressure on the lubricating oil in a crankshaft having journals 10 containing oil-holes 14, 15 leading through crank-webs 12 to crank-pins 11, the inlet holes 14 are arranged on the side of the journals 10 adjacent the appropriate crank-pins and lead inwards, without reaching the journal centre, to intersect plugged holes 15 which are drilled through crank-webs 13 and intersect diametral transverse big-end feed-holes 19. The short inward depth of the inlet holes 14 reduces centrifugal back pressure. In Figs. 3 to 7 (not shown), plugging of the interconnecting oil-ways is eliminated by drilling the crank-pin outlet holes diagonally to intersect both themselves, and an oblique inlet-hole of the journals.
