Abstract
1,056,469. Crank-shafts. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. July 20, 1965 [July 21, 1964], No. 30833/65. Heading F2U. To prevent plastic deformation and residual stresses at the transitions between the crankpins 1b and journals 2b and the crank-webs during truing, the centre portions of the crankpins and journals are left unhardened and/or are formed with an annular recess 5. If the whole surface of the crank-pins and journals are hardened the recess 5 extends radially inward beyond the hardening. If the crank-pin or journal has a central oil hole, two recesses 5<SP>1</SP> may be provided, one on each side of the hole, or two segmental recesses 5<SP>11</SP> (Fig. 3, not shown), may be provided in the plane of the oil hole, which recesses run out into the surface of the crank-pin or journal adjacent the oil hole.
