[Also in Divisions F2 and H1] An electro-magnetically actuated valve comprises a fluid-tight tubular member surrounded by a solenoid 13 having two windings. A main ferro-magnetic core 12 is slidable in the tubular member while an auxiliary core 23 is slidable in a flanged member 21. The auxiliary core 23 carries a washer 24 which actuates two microswitches such as 32. In operation, a " pull in " current is applied to one of the windings, the other being short-circuited by the switch 32, and the main core 12 moves inwards. At the end of its stroke, the increase in magnetic flux causes the auxiliary core 23 to move inwards and the washer 24 actuates the two switches, the switch 32 causing the windings to be connected in series thereby reducing the current required to hold the core 12, and the second switch actuates an indicator in a separate circuit.
