Abstract

Relates to 6-(2-phenylbenzamido)-penicillanic acid and pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic salts thereof. The acid may be prepared by treating 6-aminopenicillanic acid with 2-phenylbenzoyl chloride. Pharmaceutical preparations suitable for oral administration comprise the penicillanic acid derivative or a non-toxic salt thereof in association with a pharmaceutical carrier and may be in forms such as tablets, powders, capsules, pills, solutions, emulsions, suspensions, syrups or elixirs; they may also be in absorbable capsules, or as tablets or pills which may be laminated or may comprise an inner dose and an outer dose. The sodium or potassium salt may be prepared for inhalation as a dust or in an aerosol. Specification 880,400 is referred to.ALSO:An animal feed composition comprises a nutritionally balanced animal feed together with 6-(2-phenylbenzamido)-penicillanic acid or a pharmacologically-acceptable, non-toxic salt thereof at a concentration from 2g./ton to 50g./ton of feed. Feed formulations are described. Specification 880,400 is referred to.
