A power-driven hand-applied tool, such as a fret-saw, has the rotary movement of a driving shaft 20 converted into reciprocatory movement of a push rod 23 attached to the tool by an eccentrically-driven pin 32 engaging a groove 26 in a block 25 attached to the rod, a second groove 27 at 90 degrees to the groove 26 being provided in the block to enable the tool to be driven with its cutting plane adjusted through 90 degrees. The grooves extend between surfaces 28 . . . 31 on two faces of the block so that rotation of the block through 90 degrees permits either groove to be engaged by the pin 32. The surfaces 28, 29 or 30, 31, according to the position of the block, bear against the face of a member 21, which is screwed on to the shaft 20 of a drill and carries the pin 32, to prevent rotation of the push rod during its reciprocation. Annular grooves on the surface of the member reduce friction between the member and block. The push rod is mounted in a split housing 15 which can be clamped by a bolt 19 to the shaft journal 17 of the drill 18.
