Abstract

948,442. Photographic silver halide materials. GEVAERT PHOTOPRODUCTEN N.V. Feb. 22, 1960 [Feb.20, 1959], No. 6111/60. Heading G2C. To avoid spotting caused by the presence of reactive metals such as iron, copper, tin; lead, chromium and nickel and/or their compounds such as oxides in photographic silver halide emulsions, one or more of the layers forming the light-sensitive photographic material contains in watersoluble form an ammonium or alkali metal metavanadate, ortho-vanadate, iodate, molybdate, osmate, rhennate, ruthenate, tungstate,per-iodate,perrhenate or perruthenate, or iodic or per-iodic acid. The anti-spotting agent may be added to a protecting layer, an emulsion layer, a baryta coating layer on a paper support or to an intermediate layer. Examples are given of adding potassium perrhenate (or per-iodic acid) to the emulsion and of adding sodium metavanadate or sodium molybdate to a baryta coating.
