Abstract

An aqueous detergent composition comprises (a) one or more anionic or nonionic surface-active agents, and (b) a calcium and/or magnesium benzene or C1-4-alkyl benzene sulphonate, preferably calcium toluene or xylene sulphonate. In general, (a) comprises 15-40% and (b) 1-15%, preferably 4-8%, by weight of the composition; alternatively, the weight ratio (a) to (b) is suitably 2 : 1 to 10 : 1, preferably 5 : 1 to 7 : 1. Generally, (a) comprises 2 or more of the following types of surface-active agents: alkali metal, ammonium or amine salts of C8-16 alkylaryl sulphonic acids (especially sodium or ammonium dodecylbenzene sulphonates), of C8-18-alkyl sulphuric acids, or of C6-16-alkylaryl- or C8-18-alkyl-polyglycol ether sulphuric acids; and ethylene oxide condensates with C6-16-alkyl phenols, with C13-21-fatt acids or with C10-20-fatty alcohols. Sodium or ammonium sulphate, ethanol, sodium, potassium or ammonium toluene or xylene sulphonate, germicides and perfumes may also be incorporated.
