Abstract
948,295. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. BURNETT & ROLFE Ltd. Dec. 6, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No.46665/61. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F2] A valve, for controlling the flow of beer in a pasteurizing apparatus, is opened by an electric motor and closed in response to a temperature or pressure signal from the beer in the apparatus. The valve closure 16 controlling flow from an inlet 7 to an outlet 2 is connected to a stem 23 having a rack 31 for co-operation with a pinion 30. The pinion 30 is fixed on a shaft 26 which is fixed axially with respect to a piston member 28 but is rotatable relatively to the piston. The stem 23 is also connected to a piston 34 working in a cylinder 33. In operation, the valve is opened by an electric motor 24 driving the shaft 26 through a clutch 25. If the temperature of the beer falls below a predetermined value, or the pressure rises above a predetermined value, a solenoid valve is operated to feed fluid to a chamber 41 thus moving the piston 28 to the left to disengage the clutch 25 and fluid is then fed through conduit 44, valve 45 and conduit 46 to cylinder 33 and the fluid acting on piston 34 causes closure of the valve. When the temperature or pressure reverts to the predetermined value, the cylinders 41 and 33 are exhausted and the clutch engages to open the valve through the motor. The valve 45 is such that it prevents flow to the cylinder 33 until the piston 28 has disengaged the clutch, but allows free flow in the reverse direction. Two such valves are preferably provided, one at each end of the apparatus in which one is responsive to temperature and one to pressure.
