Abstract

1392079 Steering control valve NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 27 June 1972 [15 July 1971] 29951/72 Heading B7H In a control valve 16 for a vehicle power assisted steering system the cross-section of a variable flow restriction 66 is controlled by opposed output and input pressures P p , P s acting upon the larger and smaller working surfaces 50b, 50a respectively of a primary valve spool 50 and by a plunger 78 co-operating with a secondary valve spool 58, which plunger is caused to move by actuating means 76 in dependance on the driving speed of the vehicle. The inlet passageway 24 communicates with source P and a power-steering control valve 12 and the outlet 26 communicates with a reaction chamber 12a of the steering control valve 12. A discharge passageway 28 communicates via a constant flow restriction 30 with the outlet 26. The actuating means 76 may comprise a solenoid coil associated with a plunger 78 and energized by an electric signal from a vehicle speed sensor 18. The actuating means may alternatively comprise an hydraulic device (not shown) having a plunger moved in response to a pressure signal from a fluid pressure governor valve.
