A mouthpiece for a machine for extruding clay for brickmaking or other plastic substance includes a tapered throat portion 4 through which the material being extruded passes from the extruder barrel 2 to the extrusion die 12, and a grooved ring 7 is provided at the inlet end of the throat 4 for admitting lubricant such as oil to the column being extruded. The oil is supplied under pressure through a pipe 11 and flows around a groove or grooves 8 in the ring 7 and through the gap between the periphery of the ring 7 and the inner face of the member 4.
