Abstract

The invention comprises water-soluble phthalocyanine dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0947641/C3/1> where Q is a phthalocyanine residue, R is an arylene residue, A is the residue of a coupling component bound to X through an amino group, X is a halogenated 1 : 3 : 5-triazine residue and m is a whole number not greater than 4. The dyes are made by coupling the diazo compound of an amine of the formula <FORM:0947641/C3/2> with a coupling component which contains a halogen-1 : 3 : 5-triazine residue bound to it through an amino group, or by condensing a dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0947641/C3/3> where Q, R and m are as above and A is the residue of a coupling component containing an acylatable amino group, with a tri-halogen- or di-halogen-triazine, and when a trihalogen triazine is used, if desired treating the product with ammonia, a mercaptan, an alcohol, a phenol or an amine. Coupling components specified include aromatic amines, hydroxy-aromatic amines and pyrazolones and sulphonic acids thereof. Arylene radical R may be derived from benzene, diphenyl or stilbene. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print wool, silk, polyamide or polyurethane fibres and particularly polyhydroxylated fibres in conjunction with an acid-binding agent and heat treatment.
