Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:0977814/C4-C5/1> wherein D is the residue of a diazo component and X is a monohalotriazine or an at least dihalogenated pyrimidine residue bound through a nitrogen bridge to the coupling component. The dyes are prepared by condensing an aminoazo dye of the above formula but wherein X is an acylatable amino group, with an at least dihalogenated triazine or an at least trihalogenated pyrimidine and, if a trihalotriazine is used, subsequently replacing a further halogen atom in the dihalotriazine dye by the residue of an hydroxyl or mercapto compound bound through the oxygen or sulphur atom or by an amino group which may be substituted. The dyes may be used to colour nitrogenous materials such as polyamides, polyurethanes, silk, leather and wool but are preferably used to dye cellulose materials, particularly cotton, in the presence of an acid-binding agent, in yellow and orange shades. In examples aminoazo dyes prepared from diazo compounds of the benzene, naphthalene, stilbene, naphthatriazole-benzene, pyrene and benzthiazole series and 1-amino-naphthalene-8-sulphonic acid are condensed with 2,4,6-trichloro- or 2,4,5,6-tetrachloro-pyrimidine, or first with cyanuric chloride and then with ammonia, an amine such as 1-amino-benzene-2-, -3- or -4-sulphonic acid, morpholine or anthranilic acid or with phenol or thiophenol.
