Abstract

947,307. Vibrating conveyers; orientating articles. W. R. HAMILTON, and H. J. BURDEN. June 19, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9786/60. Heading B8A. In a vibrating hopper of the type wherein articles are thrown thereinto and are caused by the vibration to rise up an internal spiral track 2 formed on the inside of the hopper, an orientating device is introduced. Thus, in the track 2 is introduced a block 21 having a gap formed therein, and a switch 6 is inserted into the gap. Normally the shape of the gap is such that screws in the desired orientation pass over the switch without operating it. When however a mis-orientated screw approaches the gap it engages and operates switch to energize solenoid 11 to cause pusher 12 to knock the screw back into the hopper. Alternatively the screws thus displaced may be received by a track which is parallel to track 3 and may be thus discharged for use; whilst the screws on track 3 may be allowed to fall back into the hopper. Alternatively the two tracks may deliver the articles in the two different orientations.
