A tentering machine comprises two main track portions to guide the links of a chain comprising plates 15, 16 hinged together and track guides 25, 26 on the plates; a number of shorter track sections 31, 32, 33 to guide the chain links, the sections 33, 31 being pivoted at 65, 54 respectively to the track guides 25,26 respectively; a bar 73 pivoted to the plates 15, 16; and pivot pins 37, 44 between the sections 31, 32 and 32, 33 respectively having a pivot bearing in the bar 73. The plate 16 is secured to a disc 17 by screws 17<1> and is cut away at 18 to receive an arcuate portion 19 of the plate 15 pivoted to the disc 17 by a pin 20. The disc 17 is mounted on a block 22 in which a screw shaft 24 is threaded, the shaft 24 being rotatable to adjust the angular position of the plates 15, 16. Each of the sections 31, 32, 33 has ears 34, 35 extending therefrom, Fig 3. The sections 31, 32 and 32, 33 are pivoted together and to the bar 73 by pins 37, 44 respectively secured by screws 42, 45 respectively. The section 31 is secured to the track 26 and the section 33 is secured to the track 25 by pins 52, 59 respectively held by screws 54, 65 respectively engaging the plates 16, 15 respectively. Posts 67, 70 are pivoted to the plates 15, 16 respectively and to the bar 73, a slot 78 permitting sliding movement of the bar 73 about the post 67. On rotation of the shaft 24 the angle between the plates 15, 16 is split into four equal increments by the sections 31, 32, 33 to provide a gradual angle change for the fabric selvedge.
