Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a moving stroke of a head small, by providing a pair of recording and reproducing heads which have been set to a half space of occupied width of a recording track of a tape, and controlling their movement in the width direction of a tape. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a pair of recording and reporducing heads 21a, 21b which have been set to an almost half space of occupied width of a recording track of a running endless tape 11, and they are moved in the width direction of the tape 11 through a screw shaft 20 by a step-motor 32. And, when the heads 21a, 21b have been moved by a head space portion by a controlling circuit containing a mark detector 37, a counter 40 which step forwards at every running of one rotation of the tape 11, a comparator 42, and flip-flops 43, 47, their moving direction is reversed, and also one of the heads is changed over to a working state. Accordingly, a moving stroke of the head is made small, and an access time is greatly shortened.
