Abstract
946,749. Moulding indicia-bearing drums for gas meters &c. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 30, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 22598/59. Heading B5A. A ring 11 carrying the numerals 0-9 on stems 12 is injection moulded in white plastic material in a multi-part matrix containing a two part core which defines the rear faces of the numerals and the ring 11 and stems 12, and provides the numerals with chamfered edges. The two part core is then replaced by a further core and black material is injected between the matrix, the second core, and the moulded ring and numerals to form a wheel 13 above which the numerals project and in which the ring 11 and stems 12 are embedded. The entire moulding, which may be part of a meter register or cyclometer, is removed by withdrawing the second core and moving the matrix parts outwards. The ports of the mould are keyed together even in the absence of adhesion between the two moulding materials.
