Abstract

Porous graphite is impregnated with sodium pentaborate from a solution or melt, is stoved at a temperature of 220-250 DEG C. after coating with a plastic to prevent exudation, and is finally heated in carbon powder after removal of the coating. The product may contain 2% of boron. The process may be repeated to produce a 5% content. According to the example a block of graphite having a porosity of 26% is immersed in a solution at a pressure of 10 kg./cm.2 and a temperature of 90-100 DEG C. for a few minutes, is removed from the solution after cooling, and is then stoved and baked.
