Abstract

Porous bodies e.g. shaped graphite or carbon products are rendered impermeable by impregnating them with a hardenable synthetic resin and immediately packing them in an absorbent powder and maintaining them therein at elevated temperature until the resin hardens. The bodies may be dipped in the resin solution or may be first subjected to a vacuum and then to impregnation. The powder is preferably of the same material as the body but may be Kieselguhr or burnt ceramic material. The grain size of the powder may be between 1 and 2 mm. The resin may be a phenol formaldehyde resin.
