Abstract

946,075. Induction relays; protective cut-out systems. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKHAM Ltd. April 21, 1961 [May 3, 1960], No. 15497/60. Headings H2B and H2K. A protective system for transformers or other electrical equipment includes an induction relay having at least one conducting disc driven by three flux producing elements which are current transformers one of which drives the disc in the reverse direction in response to second or other harmonic currents which may be due to switching surges. As shown in Fig. 1 a transformer 10 is provided with a circulating current protective system including current transformers 11, 12, series winding 13 and windings 14, 15 across points 18, 20 which are at equal potential under healthy circuit conditions. As shown in Fig. 2 three discs 21, 22, 23 are secured to a common spindle, winding 13 acting as a bias winding, winding 14 acting as an operating winding and winding 15 as an harmonic responsive bias winding having a capacitor 27 in series with its secondary coils 25, 26. All three flux producing elements may act on a single disc (Fig. 3, not shown).
