Material, e.g. threshed grain, is fed by a tube 33 centrally into an enclosure 5, 6 and falls through a nozzle 4 on to a sieve-set comprising a relatively coarse sieve 14 and a fine sieve 13 both of somewhat conical form and forming part of a drum-like structure 2, 8 which is horizontally gyrated by a drive 1. Coarse material, e.g. straw, from the upper sieve passes into an annular channel 20 of the drum and flows from outlets 30 to fixed discharge ducts 29. Material flowing through the upper sieve falls to lower one and oversize from this sieve, e.g. whole grains, flows into an annular channel 18 and passes through outlets 24 to discharge passages 27. On the way to those passages the falling stream contacts baffles 25, 26 and is acted upon by an air flow drawn into the apparatus at 40 and passing through openings 35 to outlet ducts 28. The material passing through the lower sieve, e.g. sand, flows through outlets 23 to discharge passages 44. The sieve 13 is sub-divided into sectors, and below it a coarse mesh net 31 carries balls, pieces of belt &c., for clearing the sieve surface.
