Abstract

945,875. Parametric amplifiers. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 1, 1960 [April 16, 1959], No.-12911/59. Heading H3B. A parametric amplifier using a back-biased silicon junction diode as a non-linear capacitance is driven by a generator Wp at a pumping frequency p. The signals from source Ws have a frequency s where s=p/2, the signal and idler frequencies being the same. The diode has inherent inductance shown at 9. The diode and a capacitor 11 are tuned to series resonance at the pumping frequency. The transmission line between the pumping source Wp and the diode is one half wavelength long at the pumping frequency p and is a quarter wavelength long at the signal frequency. It is of high impedance as seen from the signal circuit. The signal circuit is a line section equivalent to a half-wave resonant line at the signal frequency S. The load, not shown, is coupled to the signal circuit in known manner.
