Abstract

945,489. Transporting solids in liquids. ENTREPRISE FOUGEROLLE. April 6, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 12252/60. Heading FIR. Apparatus for discharging debris from subterranean workings beneath the sea or rivers used the energy of the overlying water for actuating one or more hydraulic turbines 5 to drive one or more centrifugal pumps 7 which pump water containing the debris from a tank 11 through conduit 13 to the surface through the pipe 4. An electric motor 9 fed by an auxiliary source of power compensates for energy lost in the conduits and motors. The tank 11 into which water passes from the turbine 5 is provided with an agitator and debris is discharged into it at 12.
