Abstract
Paper is prepared from regenerated cellulose fibres having a cross-section such that one dimension is between 5 to 15 times the other. The fibres preferably contain from 1.5% to 4.0% by weight of a finely divided inert particulate material of average particle size not greater than 1 micron e.g. titanium dioxide, alumina, silica, carbon black, have a denier of 1.5 to 8, a length of 1/8 inch to 1 1/2 inches and are collapsed hollow fibres made by extruding a viscose containing a suitable gas-forming agent, e.g. an alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonate or bicarbonate, into a conventional acid containing spinning bath, washing and then drying. The fibres may be blended with up to 90% of natural cellulose fibres such as wood pulp, and/or nylon, acrylic polymer or polyester fibres and with cellulose acetate and other cellulose organic esters. Conventional sizes may also be incorporated.
