Abstract

Coloured viscose rayon is made by spinning viscose solution containing fine particles of one or more copper polybromochlorophthalocyanines, wherein the total number of halogen atoms per molecule is not less than 15, and at least 6 of the halogen atoms are bromine atoms. Preferably at least 90% of the fine particles of copper polybromochlorophthalocyanine are less than 3 microns, and desirably less than 1 micron, in diameter. An aqueous dispersion of the pigment to which a wetting agent is added may be colloid-milled to the required particle size, and the resulting paste separated, diluted with water and added to the viscose while agitating, the viscose being then de-aerated and spun in conventional manner. Specified wetting agents include disodium dinaphthyl methane-b -disulphonate, sodium oleyl sulphate, sodium oleyl p-anisidine sulphonate, lignin sulphonic acids, octyl phenol-ethylene oxide condensate, and cetyl alcohol-ethylene oxide condensate. Yellowish-green shades are obtained, becoming more yellow as the number of bromine atoms in the copper polybromochlorophthalocyanine is increased. Specification 925,266 is referred to.
