Abstract

The luminescent coating of a mercury vapour lamp comprises not more than 5 mg. per sq. cm. of an alkaline earth phosphate phosphor, in which not more than 20% of the particles exceed 10 m diameter, not more than 2% exceed 15 m , and not more than 4% are less than 3 m . The phosphor may be a halo-, ortho-, or pyrophosphate of calcium, strontium, barium or magnesium, and may be activated by antimony and manganese, or tin.
