944,559. Apparatus for making parquet panels. H. O. METZGER. Dec. 14, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 43127/60. Heading B8F. Apparatus for making parquet panels composed of groups of parquet slats comprises a frame for assembling the slats and means for applying adhesive tape to the slats whilst in the frame for joining them to form the panel. In one form the slats are assembled in a frame and a number of frames assembled in a magazine from which they are fed by a conveyer under the tape applying means or alternatively groups of slats are disposed in a number of magazines from which they are fed by a conveyer provided with frames for assembling the groups of slats which are then joined by the tape applying means. The tape applying means is mounted above a track 34, Fig. 5, along which the assembled slats are fed, the tape being fed from a reel 22, over gumming means 25, 26, 27 and thence under spring-urged pressure rollers 28, 28a which apply the tape. Heaters 33 may be provided to ensure adequate bonding of the tape. The tape is severed by cutting wheels 44, Fig. 7 (not shown), or by a device in which spring-urged cutters 38, 38a are mounted on a rotary wheel 36, each cutter being longer than the width of the tape. Each cutter follows the movement of a panel 41 and severs the tape, the next cutter then engaging the following panel. Adhesive jointing material may also be applied at the abutting corners of adjacent groups of slats.
